Autumn Décor Tips

Today marks the first day of Autumn!

Whilst this does spell the end of sunbathing on the beach (for us here on the south coast) it does mark the start of cosy nights in on the sofa with snuggly blankets, mood lightening and hot chocolates.

It is also a great time to start a new design project in the home with a bit of a sitting room spruce up or boudoir beatifying session. So here are some of our Top Tips for adding some autumnal lustre to your life…

  1. Change up your accessories: One of the simplest and quickest ways to revamp a room without too much fuss is to add in some little seasonal elements. Magnolia leaves can add a splash of orange into a muted room, wreaths build up from leaves help to bring the beautiful colour of outside in and building up the fire surround with hearty wooden logs adds a proper autumnal feel.
  2. Get cosy with soft furnishings: Pile up the scatter cushions on the sofa and throw a chunky knit blanket across the end of the bed. Again selecting earthy, rich colours will create a real rustic finish.
  3. Feature Walls: Adding a splash of colour to your one of your walls in deep red, earthy green or burnt orange is a creative way to make a feature in the room which can be quickly painted over with another colour when the season change again.
  4. Don’t get cold feet: Swap your summery rugs for fake fur luxe ones. This will not only feel delightful under foot but they help to add an element of luxury and grandeur in the home.
  5. Make use of your Bay: If you’re lucky enough to have Bay Windows in your home, why not create a cosy snug to snuggly down in with a good book. Add a window seat with blankets for comfort and some Wooden Shutters on the windows for privacy and escape into you own private relaxation space.

What ‘wood’ suit your home?

When deciding on the perfect shutter for your home the first thing to consider is the room in which you would like them installed into as this will impact upon the wood we would recommend using.

Here at Cherry Tree Shutters we have a number of options available including MDF, solid hardwood, lightweight hardwood, basswood and ABS all featuring different qualities to make them suitable for every room in your home.

Our Classic Shutters are an engineered product made using a MDF outer and a polymer coating. This is a wood product created by breaking down timber into a powder, which is mixed with wax and resin and then formed into panels by applying high temperature and pressure. It is a building material similar in application to plywood but made up of separated fibres, not wood veneers. The panels of the shutter are manufactured to the highest standards using mortise and tenon joints to ensure prolonged quality and durability, and engineered laminated stiles to prevent warping. They are available in full height and cafe style as well as being suitable for bay windows making them the perfect choice for sitting rooms or bedrooms. They are a very affordable option that is incredible durable and build to last.

Hardwood comes in the form of ‘solid’ (see our Marchwood range) and ‘lightweight’ (see Phoenix collection) and comes from the wood of any of the numerous broad-leaved dicotyledonous trees, such as oak, beech, ash. The lightweight hardwood comes from a Parasol tree grown over 8 years. This eight-year growing process gives the wood a very distinctive character and a grain reminiscent of oak that stands out even when painted. These shutters are ideal for large, wide windows as you can have multiple panels hinged together due to their lightweight composition.

Basswood come from the North American lime tree and is a superb fast growing and durable timber that gives these shutters (Grovewood range) an exceptionally smooth finish that shows the grain when stained.

ABS is a highly durable and waterproof material constructed using an enclosed timber core in the stiles to ensure stability. It is a highly hardwearing and waterproof material making our Vienna range perfectly suited to the humid conditions found in bathrooms and wetrooms.
